back

The following is a list of the controls that can be accessed from the DVD Transcriber main screen.

Opening and Playing Files

You can load a video clip through one of the following methods:

Open Video File

Open Video File lets you play any digital video format. This includes wav, mpeg, avi, Quicktime mov, Real rm and so on. The files can be extracted from you local hard drive, removable drive, CD ROM, or downloaded from the internet. Use the pulldown menu at the top labeled "Look in:" to select the folder or location of your file. Be sure to use the pull down menu at the bottom of the screen labeled "Files of type:" to select "All File (*.*)". Then double click on the video to load. That completes the loading process.

Open DVD

Open DVD lets you play or transcribe video DVDs. On your computer, insert the DVD in the DVD-ROM and wait for it to load up. Then select open DVD. If you DVD has various title menus or selections, the explorer window will contain many files. The true contents of your dvd are located on the file with the largest size. Depending on the dvd the file contents may be broken up into more than one file. Regardless the files you desire to open should almost always be greater than 200 MB. DVD files sizes can range from 200 MB to 4GB.

NOTE: Some dvd files will not allow you to use all of the player functionalities. For the step functions to work the DVD must not be locked down and MUST be indexed. Indexing the dvd creates an essential buffer to allow you to step forward and backward.

Pedal Controls
Back Space Amount

The back space after pause function is activated by releasing the foot pedal. After release, pressing the button again backs up the playback by the number of seconds shown on the back space amount. To change the number of seconds, use the up / down buttons next to the numeric box. DVD Transcriber automatically remembers your last entered back space setting for future use. For example, a setting of 5 means using the pedal will play, pause and rewind back 5 seconds before playing again. This lets you easily and automatically repeat what you immediately missed while transcribing.

Step Amount

The step amount function controls how many seconds the file will rewind or fast forward when the step backward or step forward buttons are initiated.

Volume Control
Volume Bar

The volume bar allows the volume of the player to be changed using a smooth user controlled variable slider. Clicking on the volume icon will toggle the must control.
